The Work

Storefront design & build

The brief Sony Music Canada had no direct-to-consumer storefront. I was brought on to design and build one.

Designed the store end to end; user flows, brand alignment, scalability, high-fidelity prototypes then built the live theme in Shopify.

Artist Microsites

Standalone sites for individual artists, including a tabloid-format build for Tedy.

Accessibility

Audited and proposed fixes to Sony Music properties following WCAG 2.2; including artist sites such as Celine Dion and Leonard Cohen, bringing live pages up to legal compliance.

Front-end & Liquid

Built the storefront's front-end in Liquid, chosen over JS to avoid vulnerabilities and keep maintenance low. Adjusted hard-coded elements as dynamic easily addressable versions allowing a higher degree of customization and control over the store’s behaviours and interactions.

Brand & production

Launch and contest materials for current artists and events (Dark Tranquillity, Noah Cyrus, among others) plus banners for the store and any quick visual material needed.

The Storefront

Sony's catalogue meant the store had to be modular; dozens of artist collections, each with its own colours and symbols. Unfortunately Shopify caps custom themes at around twenty. A storefront that hard-coded each artist's look would have hit that ceiling fast, or flattened everyone into one generic template going directly against Sony’s mission of putting their artists first.

So the collection and product pages were designed and developed to take normally static elements as variables; colour, accent, and symbol. One flexible system, dressed differently for each artist. A customization sectionlets the team re-tune a collection's palette without a developer or a new theme, avoiding the twenty-theme limit and simplifying the usability of the site empowering users that may not be as comfortable writing code.

Early in the build, several of those elements were still hard-coded. As new collections arrived with different palettes, those spots mismatched or broke. A recurring part of the work has been restoring the flexibility the system was designed for.

Modularity It was crucial for the system to stay customizable and expandable without becoming a chore to maintain.

Where it landed

The store went live at the beginning of 2025 and has been the company's direct sales channel since. Through 2025 and 2026 the work shifted from building to expanding it: more collections, accessibility audits and compliance with the different market regulations Sony sells their products in. The internship became a contract, then a freelance opportunity, renewed into 2027.
